Painful Preservation

Plaster bandages, foam, and wax, 31 x 17 x 42”, 2024.

Painful Preservation is a life size sculpture of the human figure made out of wax. The figure is crouched in the dimly lit corner, hugging itself. This textured figure, colored sickly from the wax, is reminiscent of the chronically ill human experience and is a self portrait of its creator. Connecting with themes of ephemerality, mortality, and chronic illness, this sculpture portrays the uncomfortable experience of living with a chronic illness.
