Enduring Ephemerality

Wood and wax, 30 x 94 x 24”, 2023.

Enduring Ephemerality focuses on the idea of preservation and its relevance to the human experience. This work focuses on the question, if an object doesn’t last forever, does it still have significance? This sculpture consists of a dining room table that had sections of it replaced entirely with candle wax, creating a table that is no longer functional. This poses the question to the viewer, what does it mean when an object originally designed to be preserved and passed down through generations is no longer capable of serving that purpose.
